Current ~
I am in the process of
completing my second degree at Acadia University. I am in my final year in the
Bachelor of Education program for the secondary level. My teachables are
English and social studies. Previous to this, I completed my undergraduate degree
here as well, majoring in English and minoring in history.
Reasons for Teaching ~
Since
Junior High School, I have dreamed of becoming a teacher. I admire my teachers
who treat me with respect and who show me that I am capable of anything if I am
willing to learn. I value their guidance because they are the role models I
strive to become. I wish that everyone has the opportunity to a good education;
I hope to be able to give this to others.
While I was in grade 8, I
became great friends with an exchange student. It was that friend who drew my
attention to how helpful I was to her education by helping her adjust to the
language, social, and behavioral differences between our cultures. She inspired
me to pursue my career as a teacher. During this age, many of my other
friends began abusing substances. Because of their actions, some began to lose
focus on their education, and I watched them throw away all their potential. This
was sad to realize. I want to be a positive role model for students and help
them reach their full potential.
My Future ~
For my
final practicum, I have been given the privilege of going to Shanghai, China to
teach ESL (English as a Second Language). This practicum will take place in
February 2017 - June 2017. I am very grateful for this experience because I
know Acadia and the Chinese Schools are trusting me with this
responsibility, which means a lot to me to know that they support me. I am excited
to learn and experience a new place in the world. I believe teaching in China
will teach me many great lessons.
