Loofahs

Recently in class I was discussing with a peer about my very near future travels to China. We were discussing about the different foods and bathroom appearances compared to Canada. He taught me something that is random and different and is one of those things in life that is interesting enough that I will likely remember for a long time.

He told me that body loofahs, that we use here for bathing, are eaten in China!

He showed me pictures and I had to research it for myself. I'm not talking about the colorful, plastic loofahs, I'm talking about the beige cylinder loofahs that I assume are stiff until it absorbes water.

Below are some Google pictures of the plant version, it being opened, and then fully dried. To confirm, in China people eat the plant version, not the dried version. If I come across this during my adventures, I think I would actually try it. Will keep you updated.
